Callaway Golf X-Forged Irons(2009)

Author: Avgolfer

Callaway The Forged Project 6.0; 3-PW. I have played maybe 20 rounds and practiced extensively with my new clubs. I demo-ed the Mizuno MP57s, (great club!) before buying the Callaways. All I can say is they will make you throw rocks at Grandma! I have picked up 10 yards from my old Pings on the scoring irons and 30 yards on the distance irons. A PW 145 yds? How about hitting 3 iron 240-250? No joke, I hit my 3 iron off the tee way more often on par 4s than driver or 3 wood. It is also easy to work the ball while maintaining distance control, (even longer with a draw). If you miss hit, (as I do) you only lose 10 yds, but not direction. Heck, I even love cleaning these most beautiful clubs after a round or a work out on the range. You hear a lot about forgiveness with these clubs, and it is all true. I am a 9 handicap, and I was a bit intimidated about going to a cut muscle type/bladed profile club, but fear not! They are much easier to hit than you think. Go demo a set and you will see. This is a TERRIFIC set of irons and more forgiving than the Mizuno's in my opinion. The Project X flighted shafts really are key, as the long irons fly higher due to the lower kick point built in by Rifle. The X Forged heads progressively raise the perimeter weighting, for a higher center of gravity and the kick point in the shafts raise likewise to help for a bit lower flight on the scoring irons and a mid flight on the longer irons progressively. AWESOME combo!

The Callaway X Forged irons have a really nice look from above. The topline is nothing like I would have expected from Callaway. I've played multiple sets of Callways..Big Bertha's, X12, X14 and Fusions, but I grew tired of the chunky look and offset. The X Forged is far from being chunky. The offset alone is nothing like your usual Callaway expectation. The head shape was also something that was so much more appealing then the rounded/fat look of other Callaway sets. The back cavity has some nice milling in the pocket and unlike my past experiences with Callaway, no pocket/cavity that I'd need a paint brush to scrub out the dirt and grass clippings that always manage to get stuck in there.
